Shopping in Liverpool

My mother, Barbara Salthouse, being taken shopping by her mother Maud (on the right) and her aunty Millie (on the left). The location is either Church Street or Lord Street in Liverpool. Salthouse Gallery

This damaged photograph was taken at Ditton, Lucy Salthouse is standing at the back on the left, Jim, Janet and a lady holding a dog are in front - is the lady Janet Salthouse nee Braidwood? On the right we think it is John Braidwood Salthouse and Esther Rouse, perhaps the occasion was their engagement? Salthouse Gallery

A photograph of Widnes Secondary School, Champion House 1910. The winners were Rural House. Jim Salthouse is first on the left, front row, he was 13 years old. Do you know anyone else in this picture? Salthouse Gallery

Liverpool CTC (Cycling Club) Sunday morning run c1947. From left to right are my Great Auntie Millie (Amelia McLusky, nee Ralston), her husband, my Great Uncle Jim (James McLusky), my grandfather, Jim Salthouse (who is holding another bike, presumably for the photographer), unknown, my grandmother, Maud Salthouse (nee Ralston, sister of Amelia), and others whose names are not known. Salthouse Gallery

Today, 25th September 2004, Barbara, David and I visited Nether Alderley for the open day at St Mary's Church. Brian Hobson, the verger, had the greatest surprise for us, he had found - in a garage - the original shop sign from when Annie Salthouse kept the shop in the village. Here it is, considerably more than 98 years old, "Annie Salthouse, licensed to sell tobacco & snuff"! My great-great-aunt's shop sign. Amazing. Salthouse Gallery
