My great aunt Doris referred to this gentleman as "Grandfather
Ellery", I don't know what else she said about him, but the
impression given was that he was a well-respected person. He was born on
the 3rd May 1837 at Bodmin, Cornwall, and arrived at Liverpool c1851; for
at least 40 years (until his retirement) he worked as an Outdoor Officer
for the Customs and Excise Office in Liverpool.
This is a drawing, mainly in pencil, perhaps with some sort of pastel
highlights and appears to me to be a very professional piece of work. I
haven't found a signature. |
