Bwlchgwyn Church Sketch
A sketch of Christ Church, Bwlchgwyn, as seen across the field from the back of Brooklyn Stores, sketched between 1969 and 1970 Bwlchgwyn Gallery
Nant-y-Ffrith Sketch
Another sketch of the view from the rear of Brooklyn Stores, this time looking towards the Penllyn mountain on the left and Hope mountain on the right. This was June 1969, the pylons, I think, were a quite recent addition, behind them I have sketched the rhododendron bushes which covered a large area of the mountain around the old Hall. On the skyline there are a few trees, small spindly specimens - were they beech or birch, perhaps? The rest of the mountain was carpeted in heather which turned the mountain purple every summer, but then the Forestry Commission took it over and, to my mind, ruined it for ever.  Bwlchgwyn Gallery
Bwlchgwyn from War Memorial, 2005
A modern picture of the village, taken from the War Memorial on the hairpin bend. This is one area of the village that has changed very little since before the last war. The road layout was changed in the 1960s with the new road built on the opposite side of the war memorial, the letter box is a more recent arrival, necessitated by the closing of the post office. The large house on the left was the original post office and has also been a butcher's shop; it looks different now because the doorway has been relocated. The trees in the centre of the picture indicate the old school house garden - I remember my father telling me that the garden was used to teach the boys how to grow vegetables.  Bwlchgwyn Gallery
Fronheulog Hill, Bwlchgwyn
Looking from Ruthin Road, across Wesley Road to Fronheulog Hill. This view is no longer possible, obscured firstly by an overgrown hedge and then by the houses built on Wesley Road. This picture was taken in the early 60s, before the CIL houses on Cae'r Efail were built. Bwlchgwyn Gallery
Stryt Maelor, Bwlchgwyn
Stryt Maelor, Bwlchgwyn, a very old part of the village and recently discovered to be part of another Roman Road which branched of Fronheulog Hill, along Stryt Maelor and down Nant Road. Bwlchgwyn Gallery
