William Arthur Belton (Bill Belton)
|
My father, William Arthur Belton, known as
Bill, was born at 17 Wesley Road, Bwlchgwyn, near Wrexham in Denbighshire,
on 8th March 1920, the youngest son of Arthur Belton and Edith Williams.
His two older brothers were Horace and Harold Belton.
During WW2 he was in
62 Squadron RAF and served as an armourer on the Blenheim bombers ending
up in Singapore. Luckily he left Singapore on the last plane before the
island was invaded. Whilst abroad he suffered from rheumatic fever and was
sent to a mountain hospital in India to convalesce - the picture above is
of my father (front) with some of the other patients at the mountain
hospital. Later my father and mother
kept the village shop and petrol station in Bwlchgwyn.
